HIPPA or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 is Federal legislation enacted by Congress to guide healthcare providers. These guidelines establish privacy protections for individual identifiable health information and mandate privacy practices.
Protecting your privacy and protected health information is essential to Spanish Cove. Compliance with the HIPPA Privacy Rule, effective April 14, 2003, is required for not only our facility but all independent health care providers who work with Spanish Cove to provide your care.
Our facility follows regulated privacy practices when sharing your health information with health care providers or identified Covered Entities during the course of your care.
The HIPAA Security Rule, effective April 20, 2005, also provides our facility with specific guidelines for protection of your Personal Health Information in electronic formats. Sharing information during the course of your care is often necessary for providers as they submit healthcare claims, payments, insurance information or coordination of care between providers.
